BECC take home the 1st silverware of 2005

01 Mar 2006

On Sunday 3rd April, BECC entered two sides into the annual Maccabi indoor 6-a-side tournament held at the Watford Leisure Centre.

BECC 1st were drawn into Group A along with LMV 1st & 2nd as well as Southgate. The 2nd team was drawn into Group B consisting of Newlands & Northwood, MAL and Chigwell.

Group A was won by BECC who played consistently well defeating all three opposition sides with only LMV 1st putting up a fight. Unfortunately the 2nd team only managed a win against Chigwell in their final match placing them 3rd on the table.

In the semi-final BECC faced MAL and again played a solid match both when batting and bowling by limiting MAL to just 65 runs and coasting to victory with overs to spare.

The final was against LMV 1st. BECC narrowly beat them in the group stage and was now looking to find revenge for the loss in the 2004 final. It proved to be a tight game with LMV being restricted to 108 in their innings.

During the course of both innings it looked like the game belonged to either side. The odds were swinging back and forth from over to over and with BECC requiring 12 runs in the last over to win, it was still anyone's game. BECC kept their nerve and concerntration whilst LMV succombed to the pressures handing the trophy over to BECC for 2005.

Congratulations to the 2005 winning squad for an outstanding performance throughout the tournament. The winning team consisted of the following heros:
1) Richard Wienburg
2) Trevor Woolf
3) David Davis
4) Richard Ableson
5) Richard Reggel
6) Adam Kaye

Congratulations guys!
