BECC 1st XI vs St Albans Windies - Come on Blackwood!
01 Mar 2006
Rice and Peas was the call of the afternoon and without taking any cricketing performances away from the guys, it was the highlight of the afternoon. I should not forget the classic comment of the day coming from a young Daniel Schultz who ran onto the field to join the West Indians with the words, "I'm coming my bretherans!"
Well to keep it on track, BECC lost the toss and the Windies chose to bat on what looked a very good batting wicket. Richard Reggel striked in his 1st over spliiting the stumps and Eddie Davis also broke through in his opening over with a catch scoop into the air.
The next two batsman started hitting the ball around and were putting on a solid partnership till Schultz got one caught by Bloom and Wienburg spun one onto his pads which then continued to hit his stumps. Myeroff kept things tight and had one taken off him with a good catch by Simons at slip. David Davis took over from Wienburg when the ball became difficult to grip through the rain and Simons took over when Myeroff completed his spell. Both bowled very tightly and Davis took his 1st almost immediatelly with a catch that flew to Myeroff at slip and his other caught by Schultz at mid-off.
There was some tight fielding that saved many runs especially from Goddard, Klein and Reggel.
With 150 to chase and the weather fairing up a little, Bloom and E Davis took to the crease. Bloom showed us shots all around the pitch whilst Eddie mainly played the role of spectator having only 16 on his total when Bloom reached his 50.
Both continued to hold things together until Bloom was finally caught for 70 and Davis stumped on 39. Simons came and went and so did Klein with a dubious caught & bowled decision. David Davis and Wienburg steered the team home for the final 25 runs with little challenge to win by 6 wickets.
A really enjoyable day out although rather wet and with an invitation to play again there is no doubt that BECC will be back for more rice & peas.
Kiss my teeth....
