Belmont & Edgware Cricket Club

The 2007 Maccabi Indoor Cricket Tournament took place yesterday at JFS School.

Belmont & Edgware entered two sides into the competition with the teams drawn into different groups.

BECC 1sts had a hiccup in their first group game narrowly defeating MAL with some excellent batting from David Ritterband who was well supported by Richard Black to see us through.

The 2nd team put up an excellent fight falling just short of qualification to the semis with some very close results. The team was led by Blasey "The Mullet" Blasebalk and pictures can be seen on the discussion board for those who missed the hairy event.

The 1st team continued with back-to-back victories showing some very controlled bowling, incredible big hitting backed-up by a solid fielding performance with every catch taken.

The final vs London Maccabi Vale 1st should have proven to be a good contest. LMV won the toss and chose to bowl which put a big smile on the boys who just smashed 155 against Southgate in the previous match.

In much the same effort, BECC got off to a flying start with Ritterband retiring for his 25 in the 3rd over followed by Wienburg a few balls later. Connick kept his cool and was the next to retire when reaching his 25. Ableson and Reggel continued with the stampede of runs supported by Eddie Davis ending the innings on 144 in 10 overs.

BECC took to the field and immediatelly put pressure on the LMV with wickets starting to fall from the start and regularly then on. At 30/5 and only last man young Neil Lederman putting up a fight, it just needed to be wrapped up.

A fantastic performance set a great tone for the 2007 season which is almost upon us. Congratulations to the full squad whom we could not have done this well without anyone. They were:
