BECC 1st XI starts off the 2005 innings with a solid victory

01 Mar 2006

BECC 1st XI kicked off their outdoor season with comfortable victory over Cockfosters C.C.

The game was set in the beautiful surroundings of Cockfosters cricket grounds which created a perfect setting for the beginning of the 2005 season. The toss was won by BECC and there was no doubt that a good batting session was in order to give all the players some time at the crease before the competitive season begins.

Eddie Davis and Ashley Connick were first at the crease and put on a solid start with Connick showing that he wasn't selected as Maccabiah captain for nothing. He dominated the bowling with support from Davis before giving a catch and falling for 26 runs.

Jonny Wynbourne came to crease and looked very comfortable until he was harshly judged out LBW. Rich Wienburg then Rich Ableson briefly visited Davis at the crease and both hit 3 boundaries before falling through a lax in concentration to some very average bowling.

The remainder of the team all contributed whilst Davis continued to build his steady innings to finish with an unbeaten 58 giving away no chances and after the allotted 40 overs a total of 173 was set to defend.

Richard Reggel opened the bowling from the pavilion end with Adrian Godlewicz supporting in his 1st XI debut. Reggel clearly troubled all the batsman taking 3 wickets in his spell of 10 which he bowled on the trot. He was rather unfortunate to have had a drop catch as well as clear LBW not given. Godlewicz made things difficult from the other end by swinging the ball miles but only managed to pick up 1 wicket in his spell of 6.

Solid fielding all-round helped to limit the run scoring with two excellent catches taken by Nick McCleod and the youngster Stephen Shaw who showed some Southern Hemisphere spirit.

Wynbourne, Ableson and David Davis took over and all bowled with great accuracy picking up a few more wickets for very few runs between them. Gideon Restan and Wienburg finished off the youngsters at the end to complete a solid 66 run victory.

Well done to the guys for a very professional performance which sets the team in good stead.
