BECC II lost by 1 wicket

Losing yet another toss BECC II were put in on a very windy overcast day. Ashley Connick (10) couldn’t carry on where he’s left the last two weeks (72no and 79no). Cliff Horowitz steered the innings and was supported in style by Nick McCleod (32) before sending the ball skywards. Michael Kaye didn’t get the chance to give Cliff out for the third time in a number of weeks but instead opted for a run out. It was a comedy of errors, which left Cliff (23) not laughing. Enter speed demon Stuart Haring, who ran the opposition and his partners ragged before following Nick’s example for 14. Ellis Tuhrim unfortunately followed cliff’s example when Tony Allen said ‘Go’ and was mistaken for ‘No’, this contributed to the last 6 wickets falling for just 11 runs. The away side finished on 107 in the 30th over.

After a very enjoyable and filling tea the ball was tossed to young Adam Goldman as it was hoped he’s get the best out of the pitch. Thanks to a good catch from Cliff he got another wicket to add to his collection and did OK until he gave away 14 runs in 3 balls finishing with 1-29 off 4. Last week’s hero Ben Schwarz was after his second career 5fer. With one ball remaining he was on 4, which included an instinctive catch by Stuart off a very fine edge, but on his last delivery the ball was blasted straight back at him that damaged his hand in the process of attempting to catch it. He finished with 4-11 off 7. Then the big shocker, Zeek Sweiry if renowned for his temperamental deliveries, but after a 3 bounced ball and a beamer he was kept on. This confidence not only brought about 3 maidens but 2 wickets (bowled and lbw). His 2-20 off 7 showed a marked improvement from earlier in the year. The confidence was contagious as Tony only gave away 17 in 5 overs thanks to some tight bowling. Ellis’ one over spell for 2 was cut short as the target looked imminent. Cliff (2.3,1,9,0) and Ashley (2,0,8,0) couldn’t get the last wicket and the home side reached the target with 6 overs remaining. On a very windy day the side performed well and the lack of victory was due to the captain not being attacking enough to finish the opposition off when he had the chance, but at least everyone had a good day.
