David Davis back in form and Woolf carries his bat for a big SNC win
01 Mar 2006
After a close game last week against Newlands & Northwood, Belmont & Edgware 1st XI knew that they had to turn things up a little in order to stay in the Stuart Neils Tournament.
For the first time this season BECC won the toss and put N&N into bat on what looked to be a damp and tricky wicket. This was probably due to the BECC captain running late and a fellow player tossing the coin. Good bowling spells from Reggel and Prager kept things tight as they got the openers out cheaply. Alex Haffner and Simon Durban played themselves in well and steadily pushed the score along.
Haffner eventually fell to some good bowling by Eddie Davis caught in the gully. Two quick run-outs started to dry up the runs until Mymin put on a quick fire 25 and together with Durban who got himself caught brilliantly by Ami Wymbourne at deep mid-on, closed the innings on 158 after 40 overs.
After a good tea, Trevor Woolf and Eddie Davis took to the crease and although started out below the run-rate, kept it steady and most importantly kept their wickets to some ferocious bowling on a pitch that was popping. Davis fell and Ami Wymbourne followed onto the pitch and decided to lift the score-rate with some excellent pull shots to eventually fall for a good 32. Wienburg attempted to keep the rate up but got out quickly to a great catch by Boland at mid-off.
David Davis joined Woolf and started hitting the ball all around the park combining a few lusty heaves for six as well as some well placed drives and pushes to help lead the team to victory with a four leaving him just 2 runs short of his half century. Woolf played a well timed innings holding his bat to the end finishing on 41.
BECC cruised in with 7 wickets in hand for a very professional victory. It was another good spirited game between the two sides who have one more encounter in the Play-Off semi final later this year to offer Newlands & Northwood an opportunity of revenge.
